Sprains and Strains

One reason many people don’t search for a chiropractor is that they might not actively be suffering from back, neck or other spine-related pain, such as sciatica.

While it’s true that chiropractors specialize in treating these sorts of problem, the fact is that they are only the beginning of the long list of conditions we treat.

It might surprise you to learn that chiropractic treatment can help ease the pain of sprains and strains.

What is a Sprain or Strain?

Strains are defined by tenderness, soreness or stiffness of a muscle at any time, while sprains tend to involve pain at the time an injury occurs. Both can be characterized by painful swelling, while sprains often involve bruising as well.

The causes of sprains and strains tend to be more similar than their symptoms, and including exercise without a proper warmup, the use of improperly-fitting athletic equipment and overusing muscles that are already tired from workouts and activities.

Traditional Sprain and Strain Treatment:

Traditionally, doctors treat sprains and strains using RICE, and I’m not talking about the grain, as healthy as it can be. Many sprains and sprains can heal with a combination of:

Rest
Ice
Compression
Elevation

Chiropractic Treatment for Sprains and Strains:

When RICE is not enough to fully remedy a sprain or strain, chiropractic treatment is another option at your disposal. Just as we would do to your spine for neck and back injuries, we can manipulate the joint nearest to your sprain or strain, getting to the source of the problem itself.
